Can Men Do Pilates? The Answer is a Definite Yes

    CAN MEN DO PILATES?

THE ANSWER IS A DEFINITE YES! Pilates is highly beneficial for men. It was started by a man – Joseph Pilates – who was an avid sportsman and sports trainer. Most times women tend to dominate Pilates classes due to most men thinking that it’s only for women. Pilates has a whole lot of benefits and is very challenging, but in the long run it’s worth it. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast, bodybuilder, sportsman, athlete or just a normal guy; a Pilates class can help fine-tune and enhance your physical performance.

When it comes to Pilates for men, the large majority of guys won’t have anything to do with it. That’s unfortunate because there are a tremendous number of benefits that come with taking Pilates classes and these benefits are just as impactful for males as it is for females.

A lot of men have been trying different types of exercises to get in shape. More often than not, they are not fully satisfied with the results.

There are also a lot of young and older guys suffering from bad backs, knees, hips and various other ailments. The good thing is that there are a lot of different ways men can improve upon their exercise which can help improve their body and reduce the pain in their back and other areas. Pilates is a good way to start off.

All you need to do is follow the great sportsmen, actors and stuntmen around the world and you will notice that they all include Pilates in their fitness and strength training regime. Pilates is also used for rehabilitation from physical or sport injuries. The Pilates exercises aren’t any different for men, Pilates is the same for everyone. Pilates is simply modified for different bodies with different needs and fitness levels.

Why Pilates Works Well for Men
Core-strength, flexibility, balance, uniform development, and efficient movement patterns – all are hallmarks of Pilates training and highly relevant to mens’ fitness. The integrative component of Pilates can be especially beneficial for men, whose workouts often emphasize a part-by-part approach to muscular development, such as what one finds in weightlifting.

Pilates, by contrast, emphasizes moving from the center of the body, the powerhouse, and developing core strength in the deep muscles of the center to stabilize the trunk and protect the back. This kind of core training makes Pilates an excellent technique for whole-body fitness, as well as a foundation for cross training with other kinds of sports and exercise. Pilates works toward functional fitness, which is strength, balance, and flexibility.

With Pilates training, athletes can hit the ball further, run faster, jump higher – and they do it without pain or injury to themselves. Those doing Pilates for general fitness obtain increased endurance, better balance and better overall fitness.

All the exercises are made up of different movements that can help you do the following:

REASONS WHY MEN SHOULD DO PILATES?

    1. Pilates develops all your muscle groups and promotes flexibility. People tend to neglect the muscles that they don’t use every day and Pilates helps you to work on those muscle groups that’s not as strong as others. Pilates therefore assists in injury prevention and longevity. Pilates promotes flexibility, core strength, muscle development and balance and works the body uniformly.
    2. Builds core strength. There are quite a few different types of Pilates exercises that focuses on using your core to power movement in your limbs. Pilates core exercises are highly beneficial in developing core strength for those deep muscles of the abdominals to stabilize your trunk and protecting your back and muscles are worked through all the different movement planes.
    3. Live more consciously. Pilates forces you to pay attention and listen to your body—you will learn to focus on your breathing while working through each movement and whilst concentrating on keeping proper form. After each Pilates session you’ll feel that you have had a challenging full body workout, feel refreshed, accomplished and relaxed. Pilates is great for your whole body and mind.
    4. Pilates is challenging. Pilates will challenge your whole body, balance, co-ordination, and endurance. It is a great cross-training method which will teach you proper alignment, posture and range of motion to improve sport performance. Since men often emphasise an approach to muscle development such as weightlifting, the integrative component of Pilates can prove to be very beneficial for them.
    5. Pilates prevents injury. Any active man and sportsmen will tell you how debilitating it is to not participate in an activity or a sports game, due to injury. That is where pilates comes in to work on restoring the balance of opposing muscle groups in order for the joints to stay centred and to prevent shearing forces as a result of these muscle groups not having similar strength or flexibility.
    6. Have better sex. Pilates strengthens the core and the pelvic floor, and men who practice it have greater control of this region of the body–need we say more?

  • Is Pilates Good for Weight Loss?

Is Pilates Good for Weight Loss?

Although our winter this year has not been too long, the time has arrived for glorious spring and summer. The sun is out, the birds are chirping, the air is certainly cheerful. That does mean that we only have 3 months to reach that toned body and lose some weight. Which brings me to the question that has been buzzing all week in the studio- Is Pilates good for weight loss???

Well, of course it is. What you might not know – due to so much attention on cardio for weight loss – is that bodyweight and resistance training exercises like Pilates can also lead to weight loss.
According to studies conducted, Pilates exercises definitely has a positive effect on the body composition.
Why is Pilates good for weight loss and muscle toning?
Pilates programs focus on strengthening and toning the muscles – one will burn fat instead of muscles. This can lead to a reduction in waist circumference, tones the belly and hip area and the arms, thereby giving you a leaner look.

With Pilates your body’s metabolism rate is improved so that you spend more energy throughout the day than usual. You will notice an improvement in your digestive system as well, which assists with the weight loss process. More good news is that Pilates is also beneficial for girls and ladies suffering from Dysmenorrhea, a term used for moderate to severe pain and discomfort caused by menstrual periods.
Losing weight is the first part and the real challenge comes when one must maintain weight. Practicing regular Pilates can help you maintain weight, improve core strength, and build lean muscle mass and put a spring in your step.

Yes, Pilates burns fewer calories than high-intensity cardio sessions such as running but it is necessary for any sport, including running. Pilates is a highly beneficial part of your weight loss journey especially when you choose programs that includes cardio, example Pilates reformer jump board classes, Pilates Mat Trampoline classes, Barre Classes and TRX classes. And do not forget the muscle toning aspect. Pilates – although offering a full body workout in every Pilates class – focusses on the core and waistline.

Whether you are primarily sedentary or very busy but not particularly active, it does not matter, a Pilates workout will increase your total caloric expenditure from whatever your baseline is to a few hundred calories above that.
Pilates promotes weight loss by impacting on your overall body composition. Some people who seek to lose weight aren’t necessarily looking to drop kilos, but to redistribute some of their weight and to develop a lean and toned body.

If you were the same weight but are stronger and more toned, would you want to weigh less? Probably not. You may have heard that muscle weighs more than fat. However, according to science, a pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same. The difference between the two is density. Two things that weigh the same can be very different in size. A pound of marshmallows is going to take up much more space than a pound of steel.

Two different people who weigh the same amount can look very different when one has a high percentage of fat and the other has a high percentage of muscle. An extra few pounds of fat may give you a softer, less toned appearance. But an equal amount of an extra few pounds of muscle will look firm and sculpted. Most of us want to develop more lean muscle mass and loose the fat and that is exactly what Pilates focuses on.

How often should you do Pilates for weight loss and a toned body?

Pilates two or three times a week is always a good start and the best option for one to see results. With Pilates, like any workout plan, consistency is key and leads to better results. If you can increase your efforts and do it more often, you’ll burn more calories each week. Try and vary the classes you have for example do a Mat class or a Barre class and add a Large equipment (Pilates machines) class and in that way you would be burning calories in different ways without getting bored. At Pilates Dynamics we keep this in mind by having packages which allows one to do a variety of Pilates classes in an affordable way.

    Pilates and DIET?

What you consume and how much of it plays a role when it comes to losing weight or fat reduction. Maintaining a well-balanced diet and portion control as part of your Pilates regime would lead to better results.

    In a nutshell-

Yes, Pilates is good for weight loss and tone and maintaining your desired weight goal. Join us this spring at Pilates Dynamics as we welcome Spring by introducing free group classes for the month of September. All you need to do is call in and book an orientation session prior to joining a group class.

  • What is the Best Pilates Qualification? What Certification Do You Need?

What is the Best Pilates Qualification? What Certification Do You Need?

Pilates is a mind-body exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Originally intended for rehabilitation, it has evolved into a widely practiced fitness regimen, appreciated by many for its numerous health benefits.
Pilates involves a series of exercises that can be performed on a mat or using specialized equipment such as Reformers, Wunda Chairs , Cadillacs, Spine Corrector, Arc and Ladder Barrel. Its exercises focus on controlled movements, precision and breath, aiming to create a balanced body with a strong core.

    Types of Pilates

    • Mat Pilates: Performed on the floor using a Pilates mat, this form of exercise achieves core strength and flexibility through bodyweight exercises.
    • Reformer Pilates: Utilizes the Reformer’s moving carriage and springs to add resistance to exercises, enhancing muscle engagement, balance and control.
    • Rehab Pilates: Tailored for rehabilitation purposes, physical therapists often prescribe this to aid injury recovery.
    • Classical Pilates: This is a traditional approach to Joseph Pilates’ original exercises and principles.
    Benefits of Pilates
    • Core strength: Pilates workouts target the core muscles, including the abs, back extensors and pelvic floor, improving strength.
    • Endurance and flexibility: Regular Pilates exercises enhance muscular endurance and flexibility, contributing to overall physical fitness.
    • Balance and stability: Focuses on controlled movements and body awareness, improving balance and stability.
    • Posture: Helps correct posture by strengthening the muscles responsible for proper alignment.
    • Sports performance: Athletes incorporate Pilates to boost performance by enhancing coordination, agility, strength and flexibility, reducing the risk of injuries.
    • Mind-body connection: Pilates fosters a connection between the mind and body, promoting mindfulness and mental clarity.

Pilates is a holistic approach to exercise that emphasizes intentional, deliberate and precise whole-body movements. These controlled movements are repeated several times to target specific muscle groups. Its exercises are designed to strengthen the core, improve posture, and enhance stability.
If your goal is to develop mindfulness, reduce stress and improve flexibility, yoga may be the ideal choice. Pilates might be more suitable if you aim to strengthen your core, improve posture and support injury recovery. Ultimately, integrating both practices into your routine can offer a well-rounded approach to fitness and well-being, allowing you to benefit from the strengths of each.

The Pilates workouts can be done either in a Pilates GROUP CLASS format or in a Pilates PRIVATE (ONE-ON-ONE) CLASS format. In addition to this, you can also form your own PRIVATE SMALL GROUP CLASS, should you wish to come as a family or with your friends.
    Equipment available?
You defiantly should not be worried about getting bored and being on your back for an hour because at Pilates Dynamics getting bored is impossible. Each week you are introduced to a new creative program and props/equipment keeping the classes fun and challenging.
The studio is fully equipped with Pilates Mat and Small Equipment (Rebounding, Thera bands, Magic Rings, Rollers, Weights, Balls, Bosus, Aerobic steppers, Ballet Barre etc.) and/or Pilates Large Machine / Large Equipment Classes (TRX, Reformer Pilates, Pilates Wunda Chair, Pilates Towers, Pilates Cadillac) which are incorporated in every class depending on which group you are joining (Pilates Mat and Small Equipment or Pilates Large Equipment / machine classes).

    Are your Instructors qualified?
Pilates Dynamics Instructors are fully qualified and registered with the correct bodies as per requirements. They are certified with many years of experience and with additional formal health and fitness qualifications. Your safety and goals are our concern. You will have our full attention, whether you engage in a group class or in a private (one-on-one) class.

    How are clients treated?
Our client’s health, safety and happiness are our top priority. Clients are treated with respect and care. Quarterly the clients are asked about they experience and to give feedback to the studio which allows us to keep in touch and ensure that all clients are well taken care of.
Clients are contacted if they do not attend 2 classes in the month to ensure their wellbeing in all areas of life.
Can I join classes even if I am a Pilates Beginner?
Most definitely! We will arrange for a Pilates orientation session for you, which is a Private (ONE-ON-ONE) pilates session with an experienced Pilates Instructor who will take you through some of the movements. You will learn what the Pilates lingo and terms are, as well as the correct posture during the movements and the correct muscle recruitment, so that you are well-versed beforehand and ready for your group class.
    Is Pilates for Athletes?
Absolutely! Pilates is the ideal cross-training exercise method. Whether you are doing Weightlifting, HIIT (high intensity interval training), Cross-fit, or Dancing, our bodies are used to being exercised in the same repetitive planes, and the goal of Pilates is to strengthen those muscles that usually do not get the attention and will focus on stretching the muscles that are usually over-worked and well as focusing on mobility to increase your range. Pilates is all about bringing about a balance to the body in terms of strengthening and stretching muscle groups. This will ensure that you prevent injury.
Will Pilates increase my body awareness?
Yes, another benefit of Pilates is that it encourages you to stay in touch with your body and listen to your body as you build strength. Other strength training workouts like Weightlifting, Running, Cross-fit, Cricket, Soccer, Rugby, and Cycling, encourages a mentality of pushing your body to its limits. This means you might not always be listening to your body, making it easier to ignore your body cues. Pilates kind of re-educates you in terms of being mindful so that you can perform your sports and exercise with the correct posture and movements.
Is it like doing Pilates on a YouTube video?
No, it is not the same thing, being in studio allows for the instructor to correct your posture and movement to ensure injury is prevented. Here at Pilates Dynamics, we place a lot of emphasis on posture and movement correction making sure the client is activating the correct muscles in the correct posture.
    That’s not all….
If you have always enjoyed Pilates or have a passion for training or simply in need of a career change, Pilates Dynamics is still the place for you.

  • Pilates Teacher Training Courses in Johannesburg (Comprehensive Pilates)

Pilates Teacher Training Courses in Johannesburg (Comprehensive Pilates)

What is a Pilates Comprehensive Course about one might ask, it is considered the foundational level of one’s Pilates professional education and it covers Pilates Mat, Pilates Towers, Pilates Chairs, Pilates Barrels and Pilates Reformers. The Comprehensive certification is a classical Pilates education program distinguished by an emphasis on Pilates as an Integrated movement system as Joseph Pilates Intended.

In this blog, we will talk about the benefits of training comprehensively and more. As a certified Pilates Instructor, if I had the option to train to be a Pilates Instructor Comprehensively, I would have taken it over doing each course separately like I did many years ago. I have had the joy of seeing new instructors take their Courses once off and it has more benefits, more employment opportunities and one can even open their own studio if they want to. These days there are great Pilates educators like Pilates Dynamics who have Comprehensive Pilates Courses throughout the year, and it so happens their next Course starts 8 June 2024 so make sure you hurry and register as they tend to get fully booked for their famous courses really fast.

Pilates Dynamics is hands down one of the best Certified Pilates Educator in Johannesburg South Africa. At Pilates Dynamics, you get to learn an extensive repertoire together with modifications to make the exercises either more complex and/or easier.  The curriculum is of such a nature that it allows for Pilates Instructor to acquire not only rehabilitation skills, but also allows for athletic and sports conditioning to enhance performance.  The Pilates method is an excellent training method for Runners, Cyclists, Strength training, CrossFit training, Weight training, Soccer players, Cricketers, and Golfers.

Each exercise is categorized in terms of a full body workout and the goals and objectives of the exercises are explained so that anyone understands the WHY, WHEN, AND HOW of each exercise together with muscle focus, recommendations, and contra-indications for certain population groups and those with movement restrictions.

These Courses are ideal for Physiotherapists, Biokineticists, Occupational Therapists, Dancers, Personal Trainers, Exercise Specialists and Fitness Specialists and even people with a Corporate position who want to change careers – as long as your passion is exercise and fitness.

Benefits of doing the Pilates Comprehensive Course

    1. Study one time and get fully qualified

Pilates Dynamics offers separate courses for those who wish to do each Course Individually but what I love about them the most is that they give an opportunity to those who want to do the Courses Comprehensively a chance. You get to experience the full flow of Pilates and dive into each section with maximum understanding.

    1. Endless high paying Pilates Instructor jobs

This goes without saying!!! If you are comprehensively qualified as a Pilates Instructor, every employer will be looking for you and offering you some of the highest benefits out there because you become such an asset. Pilates generally pays well for most Instructors but when you are comprehensively qualified, you are a golden unicorn so if I were you, I would be running to get that qualification.

    1. More job opportunities abroad

If you are passionate about travelling and Pilates, then this is the Course for you. Pilates has become a lot more popular over the past couple of years and there is such a high demand for Pilates Instructors in general but being able to teach on every piece of equipment makes you that one Instructor every studio wants to have.

You can still comprehensively qualify by doing one course at a time but that might take you years and years to accomplish. This is why I love the fact that Pilates Dynamics offers this Pilates Comprehensive Course.

How do I become a Reformer Pilates Instructor in South Africa?

The first thing you need to do is to find a reputable studio that does not offer you watered down or condensed Pilates Courses. We have had students come into our studio wanting to do the Intensive Reformer Course but then they realize that their Mat Qualification has left them with little to no confidence in their teaching skills as Pilates Instructors.

How do you become a Pilates Reformer trainer?

After having done your Pilates Mat course lectures, you can continue with your Pilates Reformer lectures at Pilates Dynamics so that you can obtain your Pilates Reformer qualification.  Should you already be in possession of a Pilates Mat Course qualification, you can sign up for our Intensive Pilates Reformer course.  Once you have completed your lectures, you will start with your Pilates Reformer practical training hours. The Pilates Reformer course practical hours are made up of client training, personal practice, and observation hours.

We understand that sometimes not everyone wants to learn in a group, or maybe your time schedule simply does not align with our group lecture dates, therefore you can also do this course on a private (one-on-one) basis and do the lectures at times and on days that suits you. You can contact Pilates Dynamics for more information on how to schedule private lecture hours for your Pilates Reformer Course.

How long does it take to become a reformer Pilates instructor?

Pilates Dynamics gives you a full calendar year to finish your course from your starting date. If you are part of a Pilates Reformer Group Course and you decide to finish your course a lot earlier than the rest of the group, you can elect to write your exams at any time, subject to availability of examiners at Pilates Dynamics.

Why not do a shorter course or maybe an online Pilates course?

No, No, No.  Do not do yourself a dis-service.  You do not want to spend your valuable time and money to engage in an online Pilates course or on a condensed Pilate course, only to find out afterwards when you apply for a Pilates Instructor, or you attempt to start you own studio – that you do not know enough to train Pilates.

The hazards of doing a short Pilates course or a condensed Pilates course or an online Pilate course are a plenty. With the shorter and less in-depth courses there is quite often less time available to be thorough with the material that is being delivered, and the quality of the material itself comes into question.

Can I teach Reformer Pilates without a Mat qualification?

No. A Pilates Mat qualification forms the basis of your Reformer course.  You can always complete the Pilates Mat lectures and then follow on with your Pilates Reformer lectures, which will make the Reformer course seem a lot easier to complete.

Can I find employment at Pilates Dynamics upon completion of my Pilates Mat and/or Pilates Reformer Course?

Most definitely yes.  Pilates Dynamics offers Internships as well as employment opportunities for Pilates Instructors.

When does the next Pilates Mat Course start?

Our next Mat Course starts 8 June 2024.

When does the next Pilates Reformer Course start?

Our next Reformer course starts on 1 June 2024.

Am I too old to be a Pilates instructor?

  • Proper Form and Posture in Exercise: Pilates Classes That Build Strength

Proper Form and Posture in Exercise: Pilates Classes That Build Strength

We often get asked the question why form and posture is important in movement?

And here are the reasons why form, alignment and proper technique are so important in exercise and movement.

I often cringe when I see people doing squats or a plank exercise at the gym or at CrossFit during weight training and fitness training. Many people do not realize the damage they do to their joints and how misalignment can affect their joints.  After all, longevity is all important if we want to have a pain free existence and avoid injury, discomfort, or possible medical procedure/s.

The benefits of proper form and alignment during movement and exercise:

    1. It creates a safe workout.

Whether you are doing a deadlift, or lifting a heavy object, especially above shoulder height, or doing a squat without proper form and technique, it can create a whole series of events leading to injury in the body, and compensation of the wrong muscle group/s.

This is why we insist on your first Pilates session being a private one-on-one training session to teach you the fundamentals of proper technique and correct muscle engagement.

    1. Proper form, technique and posture will make your workout easier.

Instead of compensating with the wrong muscles or being in the wrong position, why would you not engage the correct muscles from the start?  Or why would you not hold a body part in the correct position? Your workout will be so much more effective and focused and of course easier and pain free.  And you will make better progress.

Anatomically our joints are designed to be positioned in relation to each other in a precise way, whether we are moving or not, which will enable the muscles to work efficiently in a sequence and in the way that they are meant to.   For example, we will teach you how to work in a neutral pelvis, versus a posterior (flat back) or anterior (arching) hip and lower back positions.  Why neutral spine and pelvis? Why a level pelvis? Because that way there are no shearing forces, and you are working in a safe position.

    1. The correct muscles will be targeted with proper form and posture.

You want to be able to feel muscle fatigue of the targeted muscles, instead of feeling fatigue and pain elsewhere in the body or in the joints.  In addition, you will be able to perform your own workouts safely rather than continue with private training sessions, saving you time and money.  Now that sounds like an awesome deal!  Certain very important abdominal muscles need to be engaged when lifting the legs off the floor, so that your back is protected.  Also give your ribcage placement some thought.  Elevating or popping the ribs for instance during an abdominal workout will have the effect of pulling your back off the floor and losing abdominal control and engagement, thus creating the risk of injury.

    1. In Pilates we pair muscle function with breathing.

We will teach you when to exhale and when to inhale, based on muscles that are responsible for inhalation and exhalation.  To give an example, we exhale during abdominal work as it maximizes abdominal recruitment.  Trunk extensors assist in inhalation, therefore inhaling during trunk extension maximizes their recruitment.  Of course, other muscles also contract during inhalation and exhalation, BUT muscle contraction is more profound when it corresponds with breathing.

Breath control is important and is very powerful when it comes to exercise.  It cleanses the body and guides the mind by promoting strength, stamina, and endurance. In addition, it will improve oxygen flow and post workout recovery.

    1. What is good form?

Let us take a standing position and view the body from the side.  There are 4 important masses of weight in the body.  These are the head, ribcage, pelvis and feet.  The feet are the foundation and depending on the position of the feet, it will impact the rest of the body.  There is a plumb (ideal) line that goes all the way from the feet to the head.  This line should pass through the following point so that the force of gravity is evenly distributed through the body to prevent stress: –

    • lobe of the ear;
    • through the bodies of the neck vertebra;
    • through the shoulder joint (middle of tip of shoulder);
    • midway through the trunk (middle of ribcage);
    • through the hip joint;
    • slightly in front of the midline of the knee; and
    • slightly in front of the ankle

There is also a back to front component, which will affect the placement of the shoulder blades, which are crucial to prevent shoulder injury.  As we know, the shoulder is a very mobile joint, and as such has less stability.  This is one of the areas that is a big focus in pilates.  Of course, there are many other joints like the knees, which we will focus on as well.

    1. Can a Pilates instructor help me to learn proper form and exercise technique?

Most definitely, we will book a private lesson for you and take you through the process of proper form, alignment and correct muscles recruitment and breath patterns.  If you still don’t get it during the first private session, we will book another private session/s for you until you and the Pilates instructor is happy that you understand what to do and what not to do during your exercise class.  This is extremely important so that you do not end up hurting yourself during a group class or in the gym during weight training or in Cross Fit training.  Strength training is as important as stretching and you will learn various stretches applicable to your body.  It is important not to skip stretching, as a lack of mobility and too much strength will affect the symmetry of your body and joints and cause injury.

Pilates exercise focusses on strengthening the deep stabilizing muscles whilst lengthening other muscles and thereby releasing tension, to create balance in the body and to encourage the quality of movement and alignment of joints to prevent strain and injury.

    1. How can I book my first Pilates Lesson?

  • Pilates for Weight Loss, Muscle Toning and Body Shaping

Pilates for Weight Loss, Muscle Toning and Body Shaping

Is Pilates good for Weight loss and muscle toning?

Well, of course it is.  What you might not know – due to so much attention on cardio for weight loss-is that bodyweight and resistance training exercises like Pilates can also lead to weight loss.

According to a study conducted in 2017 Pilates exercises has a positive effect on the body composition.

Why is Pilates good for weight loss and muscle toning?

Pilates program focuses on strengthening and toning the muscles – so you will burn fat instead of muscles. This can lead to a reduction in waist circumference, tones the belly and hip area, thereby giving you a leaner look.

With Pilates your body’s metabolism rate is improved so that you spend more energy throughout the day than usual. You will notice an improvement in your digestive system as well, which assists with the weight loss process.

Losing weight is the first part and the real challenge comes in when you must maintain the weight. Practicing regular Pilates can help you maintain weight, improve core strength, and build lean muscle mass.

Yes, Pilates burns fewer calories than high-intensity cardio sessions such as running but it still is a  highly beneficial part of your weight loss journey especially when you choose programs that includes cardio, example Pilates Reformer jump board or Pilates mat trampoline (Re-bounding) or a TRX session.  And do not forget the muscle toning aspect.  Pilates – although offering a full body workout – focusses on the core and waistline.

Whether you are primarily sedentary or very busy but not particularly active, it does not matter, a Pilates workout will increase your total calorie expenditure from whatever your baseline is to a few hundred calories above that.

How many calories will you burn?

The number of calories you burn during Pilates will depend on factors such as weight, regular class attendance, frequency of class attendance, and its intensity. You’ll burn more calories in any Pilates workout where you elevate your heart rate.

How often should you do Pilates for weight loss and body toning?

Pilates two or three times a week is always a good start and the best option for one to see results. With Pilates, like any workout plan, consistency is key and leads to better results. If you can increase your efforts and do it more often, you’ll burn more calories each week. Try and vary the classes you have for example do a Mat class (with a variety of smaller equipment to accelerate body toning like the TRX; Bosu; Wobble Boards; Air Pillows; Free Weights; Pilates Toning Bar; Rebounding; Pilates Foam Rollers; Pilates Weighted Balls; Pilates Big and Small Balls; and Pilates Magic Ring) and a Large Equipment (Pilates machines like the Pilates Reformer; Pilates Cadillac; Pilates Tower; and Pilates Wunda Chair) class – and in that way you would be burning calories in different ways without getting bored.

    In a nutshell:-

Yes, Pilates is good for weight loss and maintaining your desired weight goal.  Loose that belly fat and join us at Pilates Dynamics.  All you need to do is call in and book an orientation session prior to joining a group class.
