Pilates Large Equipment Classes: Reformer, Tower and Wunda Chair

PILATES REFORMER / PILATES TOWER AND WUNDA CHAIR GROUP CLASSES AT PILATES DYNAMICS

What is a Pilates Reformer; a Pilates Tower and a Pilates Wunda Chair?
The Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower and Pilates Wunda Chair exercises are specially designed to challenge and strengthen the body, the REFORMER is so named because it was created to reform the body of the participant. Consisting of a large frame, topped with a flat, cushioned platform; this movable platform (or carriage) is attached to the frame by springs and moves as you push or pull with your legs and arms. The reformer also has long straps with handles on them which can be pulled to move the carriage. Through a variety of carefully choreographed movement, Reformer Pilates provides a full body workout.

Pilates Reformer exercises can be amended to create programs for beginners, rehabilitation, and/or athletic workouts. It is the most user-friendly apparatus on which to perform leg work. It places the body in a comfortable non-weight-bearing supine position and recruits the muscles in a balanced way. Some of the stretches on this machine cannot be duplicated as effectively on any other apparatus.

Like the reformer, the PILATES WUNDA CHAIR is another of Joseph Pilates’ resistance exercise machines. The Pilates chair is basically a box with one side that can be pressed down against the resistance of springs, like a large pedal. Sometimes the pedal portion is divided into two parts that can be worked independently. Traditionally, Pilates chairs were made of wood, with a padded top and pedal.

Pilates chairs increases balance and control of the body making it great for both advanced clients and athletes as well as for pre-natal clients. This apparatus activates the lower back, buttocks, shoulders, abdominals and pelvic region and heightens neuromuscular co-ordination.

The PILATES TOWER is an apparatus that offers a more stable surface to work from. Individuals can sit, stand or lie down on your back or stomach on a mat and work with resistive springs that are attached to a Tower to build strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. Tower classes are a bit more strength focused.

The Pilates Tower differs from the Pilates Reformer in that it highlights the hamstrings during leg work, both in terms of flexibility and strength. Just as the Reformer offers stretches for the lower body that cannot be duplicated on any other apparatus, the Tower offers unique stretches for the upper body that can only be performed on the Pilates Tower. A big advantage of doing legwork on the Pilates Tower is that it minimises the possibility of hyper lordosis and stretches the lower back.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced client, a Pilates Tower program can be adjusted to suit your needs.
If you are new to Pilates equipment classes, you may notice you have many choices at Pilates Dynamics. All classes offer a fun and unique way to build strength, improve flexibility and enhance posture awareness. The best approach to achieving the results you are seeking is to add as much variety to your workouts as you can. By making sure you include PILATES REFORMER CLASSES; PILATES WUNDA CHAIR CLASSES and PILATES TOWER CLASSES in your routine, you are more likely to keep your body guessing and see those results quicker.

What are the Benefits of the Pilates Reformer / Pilates Wunda Chair / Pilates Tower Exercises?
Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower & Pilates Wunda Chair classes are great for strengthening the body’s “powerhouse” (abs, lower back, hips and glutes), Shoulders, Arms and Legs. Workouts on both apparatuses focuses heavily on alignment, balance and accurate muscle engagement, which can lead to improved posture, better balance and more stability and increased range of movement, especially when in motion.

The Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower; and Pilates Wunda Chairs classes also provide terrific no-impact workouts, with a combination of lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing, with little force being exerted on your joints. There are literally hundreds of exercises which can be done on these specialised pilates apparatus, also referred to as pilates large equipment.

These workouts are great if you are looking for an intense and challenging workout!!

Can beginners sign up for a Pilates Reformer / Wunda chair GROUP class?
Our Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower and Pilates Wunda Chair Pilates group classes are suitable for all fitness levels and anyone can sign up even if they have little to no pilates experience, however we do ask clients to book an orientation session first before signing up for a group class. The orientation session is a private, 55 minute session in which the instructor/trainer will assess the client for possible injuries and muscle imbalances, muscle weaknesses and discuss goals and outcomes and teach clients the basics of pilates like proper breathing, correct movements, how to isolate and use the correct muscle in exercises and correct body alignment (spinal, pelvic and joints).

You will be orientated as far as using these machines are concerned, so that you are familiar with the operation instructions given by the Pilates Instructor during your group exercise class. These sessions can be booked at any time, depending on the availability of our instructors.

What should you bring to the class?
Bring along a sweat towel and socks as exercises are done wearing socks. If you have anti-slip socks, then those will work better.

How do we book a class?

  • Teaching Pilates Abroad? Yes Please!

    Teaching Pilates Abroad? Yes Please!

Ok, let’s face it, we all know that Pilates has been gaining more momentum lately than in previous years and if you love exercise, interested in relocating or travelling the world while doing something more satisfying – I encourage you to take up Pilates. Pilates really is the future sport for the next generation, and we love to see this transpiring.

I am always so happy to share my journey because it opened bigger doors than I could have ever imagined! I have always loved exercise and travel however I had an 8-5 job, and we all know how that can be difficult, especially for someone who craves change often.

I started doing my Pilates client exercise classes in 2018 at Pilates Dynamics® in Johannesburg Randburg.  I enjoyed my classes intensively and one day it so happened that I had a class right after their Pilates Instructor Training Courses group. I spoke to the Pilates Students a bit and I asked for the Course Info Pack and a few days later, I found myself incredibly intrigued by the opportunities of becoming a Certified Pilates Instructor.  I decided to enrol into one of their courses and I felt so alive. The lecturers are very hands-on and extremely detailed and I completed the course. I was still working full-time and therefore trained clients at the studio on a part-time base.  During the Covid 19 pandemic, I ended up being laid off from work.  I then decided to start teaching Pilates online and I am I have relocated to Australia with my family to follow my dream.

Let us explore the benefits of taking Pilates Courses with Pilates Dynamics👏🏽😊:

    As a Student

Taking a Pilates Class and doing the Pilates Mat Course would be the obvious first step as you go through your journey to becoming a Certified Pilates Instructor.

    1. Cuing Epiphanies

Doing my Pilates Courses with Pilates Dynamics® taught me the importance of cuing as an Instructor. There are so many instructors out there who are talented, but they struggle with their cuing techniques. As a student, I never used to understand why so much emphasis was being put on this but now that I am fully qualified, hearing my clients compliment me especially on my cuing, it makes me feel happy with choosing Pilates Dynamics® as my educator of choice.

    2. Mutual Support

Working with other students as part of a group is so wholesome because you learn from each other, making the learning process more fun and engaging. When you work with a group of people who share similar goals you have, it makes the learning process a lot easier. We were always encouraged to frequent the studio and get our bodies used to movement and exploring our capabilities and the FREE access to the studio for completion of our practical hours makes Pilates Dynamics® extra special to me- not only me but the rest of my classmates loved that as well. We got so familiar with the equipment and eventually teaching became easier because we had already built confidence.

    3. Affordability

At the beginning of your journey learning to be a Pilates Instructor, you do not want to break the bank and for the dedication you get from Pilates Dynamics, the pricing is great. They even have a payment plan that you can follow if you would like to. We get a lot of detailed study information, which is very helpful because sometimes life gets so busy with other things and knowing that you receive that kind of supporting material to help make life easier for you, is incredible.

    4. Top-tier quality Lecturers

The lecturers of the courses have been exposed to numerous styles of Pilates and have many years of training and education experience, with additional formal qualifications in Human Movement. The Courses are taught in a very in-depth and intensive manner and offer an integration of anatomy, injuries and pathologies with recommendations and contra-indications, and exercise goals to ensure an understanding of the work.

    5. Visual and Physical Learning

You will have access to exercise videos of the exercises presented in the manual to assist you with your early learning and this is perfect because you can study from anywhere if you cannot make it to the studio. Remember, you will have FREE access to the Studio and its equipment like the Pilates Reformer, Pilates Wunda Chair, Pilates Towers, Pilates Cadillac, Pilates Ladder Barrel, and a variety of small equipment like Ballet Barre, TRX, Bosus, Kettlebells, Free Weights, Pilates Balls-big and small, Thera-bands, Foam Rollers, Pilates Air Cushions, Pilates Arc Barrels, Pilates Step Barrels, Aerobic Toning Bars, Exercise Rotation Discs, to name but a few.

Students are encouraged to work with a Pilates Instructor (Mentor) by booking additional training sessions during the course at a fee, to ensure proper preparation prior to the exams, but students also have the choice to find their own Mentor who needs to be pre-approved by the studio in order to make sure that the way they teach you falls in line with the way the Studio teaches to avoid a mix up of methods which can cause frustration and confusion for some people.

    6. Possible Job Opportunity

The lead Instructor is hands-on and very involved in the training of students and If you are done training and you need a job, Pilates Dynamics®   will consider you for a job first, before any other Instructors. Their successful Pilates Students have not had any problem being employed internationally.

Now, you could be wondering why exactly a Certified Pilates Instructor is a route you should consider taking, and I will break it down below.

    1. Financially Beneficial

You don’t wake up one day and become successful just because you are a qualified Instructor. Most clients will love the way you conduct your classes depending on your skill and knowledge and above all, your confidence! You cannot reach your best potential if you do not have the right Pilates qualification to provide you with confidence in your teaching.

Pilates Dynamics® moulded me in such a way that wherever I teach, my knowledge and confidence show and people started making bookings with me a lot more. When you know what you are worth, your clients will know it too and they will be willing to pay for that service because they trust and believe in you. That is always great because they start recommending you to other people as well. You can relocate anywhere in the world with these Courses as they are Internationally recognized. If you love exercise, you can take Pilates as a full-time Career, and you will not regret it.

    2. Expanding business opportunity

Sometimes you might not be ready to leave your 8-5 and that is okay. You can always have your Pilates as an extra source of income. You can teach Pilates In-studio if you want, or you can do it in the comfort of your own home via Zoom. The possibilities to earn are endless when you invest in high-quality Pilates Education that does not offer watered-down courses.

Since you are already here, feel free to check out the Course Info Pack.

Teaching group classes can often lead to some people converting to being private clients, therefore more business comes your way. You can teach as a Group class substitute teacher at different studios, and this would be a great opportunity to make a little extra money and build relationships at studios.

For a Pilates Lecturer, nothing beats the feeling of watching students putting in the effort and making progress and ultimately achieving their goals. Being hands-on with your course is one of the best things you can do for yourself if you want to see the best results.  Remember that Practice makes Perfect.

Mat Pilates usually allows you to use your own body as resistance against gravity with the help of balance and smaller type of equipment for extra resistance.  Then there are also Large Equipment classes (Pilates Reformer; Pilates Cadillac; Pilates Ladder Barrel; Pilates Towers; Pilates Wunda Chairs), which works with spring tension and smaller equipment is also added form extra resistance.

    6. Is Pilates good for period cramps and can it help my mental health?

The short answer is YES! There are some Pilates moves that can reduce period cramps. Exercises such as the mermaid when combined with rotation and extension help promote blood flow to the stomach and pelvis by contracting these muscles, and then using them in a lengthening position in extension. All this helps to relax the abdomen.

Pilates for mental health- Pilates and breathing exercises can help to reduce anxiety and the incidence of panic attacks in people prone to these. While improving your physical health, Pilates also helps to restore emotional balance and gives clients a chance to disconnect from a hectic or stressful life and unwind for a short period.

    7. I sit in front of my computer all day and feel stiff and sore. Can Pilates help?

Pilates exercises can help you straighten your spine, which can help with neck pain and compensate for ergonomic issues such as leaning forward when at your desk. Pilates is an excellent form of exercise since it focusses on your core strength and posture correction.

Pilates Classes Near Me: Reformer, TRX, Rebounding, Wunda Chair and Towers

Over the past couple of years, it is safe to say that Pilates has taken over the exercise world and we see some of our favorite celebrities both male and female like Lori Harvey, The Kardashians, David Beckham, Jennifer Aniston – to name a few – gushing over Pilates.

    What is Pilates?

Even though Pilates has become popular, there are some people who still do not understand what it is about so we will briefly cover this question.

Pilates was developed by a man called Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and was originally called “Contrology”. Pilates is a full body workout, using spring and body weight resistance – and many other equipment – and control placing emphasis on the core to control proper breathing and breathing patterns, correct spinal and pelvic alignment.  Joseph Pilates was involved in all different types of sports and developed this exercise method to create a 360-degree type of exercise with mind and body involved for sports as well as for all people, active or not.

Pilates strengthens stabiliser muscles which support the skeletal structure with emphasis on the spine which will ultimately improve posture and unload the spine and the joints.

With that being said, there are people who enjoy Pilates as a form of exercise only and there are others who are very passionate about Pilates and movement that they decided to become Pilates Instructors and if you are either one of those, Pilates Dynamics is the best studio near you to get the best Pilates classes and Internationally Recognized Certified Instructor Training Courses.

What is the main focus of Pilates?

The main aim is to condition the deeper, supporting muscles of your body to improve posture, balance, and coordination.  Pilates is a full body exercise regime.  Equipment-based Pilates includes specific big machines that works against spring-loaded resistance, including the ‘reformer’, which is a moveable carriage that you push and pull along its tracks.

Speaking of the Reformer, as Pilates Dynamics we are well known for our Pilates Instructor Training Courses we run throughout the year and our next Pilates Intensive Reformer Course is starting 26 August 2023!!!

The Reformer is the most famous of all the Pilates Apparatuses.  Specially designed to challenge and strengthen the body, the ‘reformer’ is so named because it was created to reform the body of the participant. Consisting of a large frame, topped with a flat, cushioned platform; this platform (or carriage) is attached to the frame by springs and moves as you push or pull with your legs and arms. The reformer also has long straps with handles on them which can be pulled to move the carriage.

The Reformer is perhaps the most user-friendly apparatus on which to perform foot/leg work.  It places the body in a comfortable, non-weight bearing supine position and recruits the muscles in a balanced fashion.  Stretches performed like the hip-flexor; hamstrings and adductor muscles cannot be duplicated as effectively on any other piece of Pilates apparatus.

The jumping series is unique to the reformer which accommodates plyometric (powerful jump training) movements in a full range.

Exercises are done lying down back, front, or sides, seated and standing, with or without balance – whilst the machine moves.  At Pilates Dynamics, you can join a Beginner or Intermediate or Athletic Pilates class. How great is it to have such options?!!

Each exercise is categorized in terms of a full body workout and the goals and objectives of the exercises are explained so that anyone understands the WHY, WHEN, AND HOW of each exercise together with muscle focus, recommendations, and contra-indications for certain population groups and those with movement restrictions.

Should you not have any prior learning in Anatomy and Movement Science, or should you just need to brush up on your Anatomy, do not despair as Anatomy is included in our Courses.

How do I become a Pilates instructor in South Africa?

The first thing you need to do is to find a reputable studio that does not offer you watered down or condensed Pilates Courses. We have had students come into our studio wanting to do the Intensive Reformer Course but then they realize that their Mat Qualification has left them with little to no confidence in their teaching skills as Pilates Instructors.

To join us at Pilates Dynamics, you can read up on our courses and contact us: https://pilatesdynamics.co.za/pilates-teacher-training-courses/

How do you become a Pilates reformer trainer?

After having done your Pilates Mat course lectures, you can continue with your Pilates Reformer lectures at Pilates Dynamics so that you can obtain your Pilates Reformer qualification. Should you already be in possession of a Pilates Mat Course qualification, you can sign up for our Intensive Pilates Reformer course. Once you have completed your lectures, you will start with your Pilates Reformer practical training hours. The Pilates Reformer course practical hours are made up of client training, personal practice, and observation hours as per our Course Info Pack.

We understand that sometimes not everyone wants to learn in a group, or maybe your time schedule simply does not align with our group lecture dates, therefore you can also do this course on a private (one-on-one) basis and do the lectures at times and on days that suits you. You can contact Pilates Dynamics for more information on how to schedule private lecture hours for your Pilates Mat Course or your Pilates Reformer Course.

How long does it take to become a reformer Pilates instructor?

Pilates Dynamics gives you a full calendar year to finish your course from your starting date. If you are part of a Pilates Mat or a Pilates Reformer Group Course and you decide to finish your course a lot earlier than the rest of the group, you can elect to write your exams at any time, subject to availability of examiners at Pilates Dynamics.

Why not do a shorter course or maybe an online Pilates course?

No, No, No. Do not do yourself a dis-service. You do not want to spend your valuable time and money to engage in an online Pilates course or on a condensed Pilate course, only to find out afterwards when you apply for a Pilates Instructor or you attempt to start you own studio – that you do not know enough to train Pilates.

The hazards of doing a short Pilates course or a condensed Pilates course or an online Pilate course are a plenty. With the shorter and less in-depth courses there is quite often less time available to be thorough with the material that is being delivered, and the quality of the material itself comes into question.

    Lady practicing mat pilates

Can I teach Reformer Pilates without a Mat qualification?

No. A Pilates Mat qualification forms the basis of your Reformer course. You can always complete the Pilates Mat lectures and then follow on with your Pilates Reformer lectures, which will make the Reformer course seem a lot easier to complete.

If I have an Anatomical background, do I have to repeat the Anatomy section of the Pilates Mat Course?

What to look for when choosing a Pilates educator

When you are looking for a Pilates educator, why settle for 3rd best or 2nd best when you can have the number one option? Pilates Dynamics Studio has been operating long enough and we are passionate and serious about our tuition and our students. The Course content is carefully and regularly updated to make sure our students get top tier education.

Our previous students have had a chance to work at our studio before eventually relocating all around the world and some have opened their own spaces. Some Pilates Instructors are mobile Pilates trainers. Here are some comments from clients who trained with Pilates Instructors who previously qualified with Pilates Dynamics:-

“I am an absolute beginner with not the best coordination and terrible balance. I have been gently guided in one-on-one sessions and encouraged in classes no matter how difficult I find it. My body has strengthened far faster than I thought possible. Love my classes and the caring, calm, professional environment.”

    Jeanine Kerr

I thoroughly enjoy my Reformer classes . the instructor is incredibly attentive to detail and doesn’t let me take the easy way out of any exercise. As a result, I have become more aware of my own body and its capabilities. Instead of trying to go easy on myself, I’ve come to enjoy pushing my body and using the correct muscles and form to get each exercise right.

    -Stephanie Byl

“What a privilege to work at such a stunning studio in Frankfurt.  Andriesa Benecke Verloop thank you so much for the good wishes.  I will be teaching Reformer classes.  Some of my best memories are working at your studio @Pilatesdynamics.  I learnt so much, thank you for that!”

    Tanya Keating

I can suggest Pilates Dynamics to everyone who is looking for qualified trainers. I am doing my prenatal Pilates private lessons with instructors, who is very professional and well prepared and dose there jobs with great passion. The studio is always very clean and very well equipped.

  • How Many Times a Week Should I Do Pilates? The Health Benefits of Pilates

How Many Times a Week Should I Do Pilates? The Health Benefits of Pilates

    What is Pilates?

Pilates was developed by a man called Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and was originally called “Contrology”. Pilates is a full body workout, using spring and body weight resistance and control placing emphasis on the core to control proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment.  Joseph Pilates was involved in all different types of sports and developed this exercise method to create a 360-degree type of exercise with mind and body involved for sports as well as any other person, active or not.

Pilates strengthens stabiliser muscles which support the skeletal structure with emphasis on the spine which will ultimately improve posture.

Pilates exercises focus on building strength of the abdominal muscles designed to strengthen the inner postural muscles and help create muscle flexibility in a controlled effective and sustainable manner. Precision and control are some of the main principals included in Pilates during movement which results to isolation of the main muscles at work. Pilates exercises refresh both the body and mind while holding many other benefits. It is now the winter season and working out is starting to look impossible by the day but when your Pilates Studio is intentional about motivating you to be your best self, you will find yourself making it to all your classes.

Pilates Dynamics offers you great workout routines – that are always different and exciting – and gives you a good balance of flexibility, strength, muscle tone and help towards reducing aches and pains. It might look a bit intimidating at first, but it is much easier to get into. Pilates Dynamics offers the best prices for all your Pilates classes.  We offer the following types of Pilates classes;-

What are the benefits of Pilates?

    1. Pilates Improves body awareness.

In addition to improving body awareness, Pilates is a mind-body practice. A lot of attention is paid to the muscles working, the effects of the movement you feel while working, and your breathing pattern, and allowing one to be more aware of their body as they move and do daily activities.

A person with enhanced body awareness is less likely to get injured or fall because the body responds better to stimulus. To be in tune with your body, you must improve your body awareness and Pilates Dynamics makes sure to incorporate this during your exercise sessions.

    2. Pilates Improves posture, core strength and enhances sports performance.

Pilates allows you to align your spine, maintain an ideal range of motion at your joints, and have a strength and flexibility balance between opposing muscles that will help you maintain a good posture.

We all know that in Pilates, the core plays a key role – as the centre of the body from which all movement comes from.

The Pilates method improves core strength and function. As a result of core strength, back, neck, shoulder and hip pain are reduced, pelvic floor dysfunction is reduced, and explosive movement is derived from it, hence the nickname “the powerhouse.”

The Pilates method is an excellent training method for Runners, Cyclists, Strength training, CrossFit training, Weight training, Soccer, Cricketers, and Gofers.

Pilates also focuses on strengthening the smaller muscle groups which are often neglected allowing your musculoskeletal system to function at its best. With every movement, you build on stamina and improve physical coordination and balance which improves sports performance.

    3. Pilates Helps Prevent Injury

Pilates helps prevent injuries by keeping the muscles in balance, strengthening your core and – perhaps most importantly – enhancing body awareness, co-ordination, and mental concentration.  Pilates is also a great rehabilitation tool, which is why physiotherapists and biokineticists add a Pilates qualification to their existing qualifications.

    Indoor & Outdoor Pilates

    4. Increases energy

By focusing on breath, Pilates improves cardiorespiratory capacity. This stimulates “feel-good hormones,” oxygen flow, and blood circulation.

Pilates achieves all of this and, due to its low impact nature, rarely leaves you feeling fatigued. Instead, it gives you a boost of energy.

    5. Pilates reduces menstrual pain

Dysmenorrhea is the condition of painful menstrual periods, and if you’re someone who’s experienced it, you know how debilitating it can be. Research has suggested that Pilates can help reduce menstrual pain.

    6. Pilates strengthens your bones

The current lifestyle of more sitting and less moving is detrimental to our health and our bone density. Strong bone density prevents osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and can affect people of any age. Studies have shown Pilates to be effective in increasing quality of life, relieving pain, and increasing bone density.

    7. Pilates increases mobility and strength

Pilates exercises focus on building strength of the abdominal muscles and inner postural muscles and help create muscle flexibility in a controlled effective and sustainable manner.  Precision and control are some of the main principles included in Pilates during movement which results to isolation of the muscles at work.  Pilates exercises refresh both the body and mind whilst holding many other benefits.

You will feel and see the difference in everyday life and sports and any other type movement you do.  You will see your posture, range of movement and mental state improve, not to mention the muscle tone of your body – so it is a win-win situation.

Do yourself a BIG favour and pop in to try a class or two.  You will love it!!!

Can You Do Pilates on a Rebounder and Lose Weight?

We all want to get our cardio in, and this is winter which makes it the perfect time to work in our summer bodies right? Rebounding/ trampoline work out is one of the best cardio exercises one can do. It is appropriate for people of all ages from children to adults. There are benefits of rebounding that everyone needs to know and at Pilates Dynamics, we are not stingy with information so here goes:

What are the benefits of Rebounding?

    Weight loss benefits

    • Tightens the tummy by engaging your core in every movement as you work out. The Trampoline exercise is also well known for stimulating your metabolism so that you get to burn more calories throughout the day and unlike longer cardio sessions which are thought to hinder weight-loss due to the longer periods of you running out of breath. With rebounding, you do not experience that.

    Medical Benefits

    • Rebounding also helps with lymphatic circulation by keeping your fluid levels balanced so that toxins are flushed out easily and this helps your body fight infections.
    • Lowers blood pressure so that fluids move more effectively through the body and back to the heart, helping to lower blood pressure.
    • Reduces your risk of chronic disease by decreasing blood pressure and blood fat. These benefits prevent you from increasing belly fat, which can boost your risk of type 2 diabetes.

    Helps Reduce Cellulite

    • Rebounding on a trampoline is like pumping your body. Rebounding helps stimulate the thyroid gland start cleaning itself and the entire lymphatic system of stored fat. Trampoline exercise is the most proven way of eliminating cellulite

Most definitely!  We will arrange for a Pilates orientation session for you, which is a Private (ONE-ON-ONE) The Pilates session with an experienced Pilates Instructor who will take you through some of the movements.  You will learn what the Pilates lingo and terms are, as well as the correct posture during the movements and the correct muscle recruitment, so that you are well-versed beforehand and ready for your group class.

    Pilates Dynamics 4

    Is Pilates for Athletes?

Absolutely!  Pilates is the ideal cross-training exercise method.  Whether you are doing Weightlifting, HIIT (high intensity interval training), Cross-fit, or Dancing, our bodies are used to being exercised in the same repetitive planes, and the goal of Pilates is to strengthen those muscles that usually do not get the attention and will focus on stretching the muscles that are usually over-worked and well as focusing on mobility to increase your range.  Pilates is all about bringing about a balance to the body in terms of strengthening and stretching muscle groups.  This will ensure that you prevent injury.

Will Pilates increase my body awareness?

Yes, another benefit of Pilates is that it encourages you to stay in touch with your body and listen to your body as you build strength.  Other strength training workouts like Weightlifting, Running, Cross-fit, Cricket, Soccer, Rugby, and Cycling, encourages a mentality of pushing your body to its limits.  This means you might not always be listening to your body, making it easier to ignore your body cues.  Pilates kind of re-educates you in terms of being mindful so that you can perform your sports and exercise with the correct posture and movements.

    Pilates Dynamics 5

Is it like doing Pilates on a YouTube video?

No, it is not the same thing, being in studio allows for the instructor to correct your posture and movement to ensure injury is prevented. Here at Pilates Dynamics, we place a lot of emphasis on posture and movement correction making sure the client is activating the correct muscles in the correct posture.

    That’s not all….

If your New Year resolution is to become a Pilates Instructor , Pilates Dynamics is still the place for you.
