    Get Holiday Ready with Pilates

The holidays are coming around soon, and most people will be going on holiday and what better time to get our bodies Bikini & Speedo ready for the upcoming holiday season than booking your Pilates classes now?
Hello there, my name is Jane and I have been getting a lot of questions about my workout routine lately. So, considering it is now Bikini season, I thought I would tell you some of my favourite things that have kept me consistent in my Pilates journey while getting ready for Bikini and Speedo season of course!
    1. Getting a variety of classes

In my search for the perfect studio to suite my needs, I came across Pilates Dynamics Studio, and it has been such a great experience for me because they offer a variety of Pilates classes with different types of equipment. This is great because I get bored easily and I opt out of things, but they have kept me on my toes with different fun classes weekly and I am thoroughly enjoying myself.

    2. How will Pilates help me to tone my body?
The main aim is to condition the deeper, supporting muscles of your body to improve posture, balance, and coordination. Pilates is a full body exercise regime. Equipment-based Pilates includes specific big machines that works against spring-loaded resistance, including the ‘Reformer’, which is a moveable carriage that you push and pull along its tracks.

Speaking of the Reformer, Pilates Dynamics is well known for their Pilates Instructor Training Courses they run throughout the year and their next Pilates Intensive Reformer Course dates together with the rest of their well sought after Courses dates for 2024 are available.

    3. What kind of Pilates exercises will help me get Bikini ready?

Surprise truly is the best element of Humour in Pilates!!! Just like so many people, I used to think that you can only get great results by using the Pilates Large Equipment like Reformers, Towers, and the Pilates Wunda Chair. Over the past few months since I joined Pilates Dynamics, I have learnt that the biggest misconception about Pilates is that Mat Pilates cannot transform your body because a mixture of both did wonders for me!

    4. Can you get abs from Mat Pilates?

I am the living proof, and the answer is a strong YES!!! I toned my body and after a few sessions of me being very consistent, I started noticing the difference in my body and I decided not to stop there. I wanted the abs, and I got the abs!!

Pilates Dynamics is honestly one of the very few Pilates Studios that is fully equipped. They have a variety of equipment they use for your Mat classes in order to make sure that you fully engage and work on your core to build those ab muscles.

    5. Pilates Courses Johannesburg?

Pilates Dynamics offers Internationally Recognized Certified Instructor Training Courses that are very in depth and intensive and offer an integration of anatomy, injuries and pathologies with recommendations and contra-indications, modifications and variations of exercises and exercise goals to ensure an understanding of the work.

The course covers the use of a big variety of smaller equipment that can be used with the Pilates Reformer. A pre-requisite for this course is the Pilates Mat and Small equipment course in 1. Above.

  • Barre Classes at Pilates Dynamics

    Barre Classes at Pilates Dynamics

For many of us, Pilates is a life-changing exercise method. If your exercise background has been the typical gym workouts focussed on strength and cardio training, and you are looking for an alternative full-body workout, then look no further than a Barre Class.

A Barre workout program is gaining popularity, recognition and followers. This fitness program is essentially a mixture of ballet-inspired exercises, Yoga and Pilates. The Barre method derives from the Lotte Berk Method founded in 1959 in London by its namesake, a German dancer looking to stay fit while nursing a back injury.

    WHAT IS BARRE WORKOUT?

Barre uses your own body weight for resistance and focuses on small, deliberate movements focussed on specific groups of muscles, specifically muscles that aren’t used in other workouts. Muscles are worked to the point of fatigue, and then stretched for relief. Proper form, body alignment and posture are emphasized, which in turn leads to an overall strengthening of core muscles and an aligned, lean body.

Aerobic exercise is also used at times during a Barre class to increase cardiovascular endurance and the body’s metabolism to burn calories and you will work up a sweat. Additional equipment like free weights, weighted balls, unstable props and soft balls are also used to intensify muscle recruitment and challenge.
Movements are functional for men and women as well as all ages and fitness levels. Movements improve balance and body awareness to build strong, lean, flexible and healthy bodies.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A BARRE CLASS?

Do not be surprised if your legs are trembling and sweating during these classes as this is quite common and a sign that your muscles are working hard. Getting to the point of shaking means that you have worked the muscles to fatigue. If this sounds like your joints are under strain, do not be concerned. Even though the Barre Pilates classes are tough, it is easy on your joints and will prevent and reduce injuries and will improve your posture.
You will feel the muscle burn whilst burning serious calories and work up a sweat during a Barre class.

    DO I NEED ANY EQUIPMENT?

No equipment is needed. The studio has ballet barres. Pilates Dynamics Studio also has a variety of small equipment that will be used in addition to the ballet barre, like free weights, soft balls, weighted balls and balance equipment.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A BARRE CLASS?

    1. Increased flexibility. Borrowing from ballet and all the flexibility that dancers need, barre classes also can help improve your stretchiness. Some exercises involve mobility, particularly in the hips, with a fair amount of stretching.
    2. Increased muscle strength and tone. Any form of resistance training, weightlifting, and barre will increase muscle mass. The abs and back muscles will get fired up and you will sculpt a stronger, more defined core, arms and legs.
    3. Improved endurance. Barre workouts are all about endurance, form, and repetition You hold positions for a long time and exhaust reps, but with weights. Because you are spending a good amount of time in each shape to really wear out the muscles, you also can truly feel what part of your body you are supposed to be activating and strengthening.
    4. They’re gentle on joints. Barre classes are low impact, which can reduce the risk of injury and help if you are already injured. Many people are working with injuries and still want a solid physical challenge without feeling like they must modify everything. Barre is low impact as there is no jumping in a barre workout. That also makes it a great option for pre- and postnatal women.
    5. Better posture. Many of the moves in a barre class also target the abs and core, enabling you to work toward a stronger, more defined core, and you will be gaining solid strength to improve your posture, balance, and overall agility.
    6. Great for cross training. Even if your primary focus is on getting ready for a competitive race, a barre class can be a great form of cross training to maintain strength and well-rounded fitness.
    7. Increase Bone Density. Regular barre workouts can increase bone density, which can help prevent conditions like osteoporosis. They can also help you to avoid injury. The small isometric muscle movements used during barre classes build muscle strength without putting a strain on ligaments and tendons like other fitness training methods can.

  • The Best Fully Equipped Pilates Studio Near You

The Best Fully Equipped Pilates Studio Near You

It is that time of the year where our journals are out, and we are putting down all our second half of the Year resolutions – Pilates with Pilates Dynamics should be at the top and we will discuss why?
Pilates is not as easy as most people think it is. The distance is the least of your concerns -you can always make a plan 😉- what is more concerning is the quality of Pilates being offered where you are going.
Pilates Dynamics is calling your name and is ready to help you achieve your Resolutions.
    Where is Pilates Dynamics located?
Pilates Dynamics is situated in a busy retail and corporate office environment. Our location is perfect as we are also right next to Cresta Mall which is convenient for all your after class shopping you might need to complete before heading home.
    What are the operating hours?
Pilates Dynamics is open Mondays to Fridays from as early as 6am to 7pm, making it easy for you to find the time that best suits you whether you are a before work or after work type of person- we have got you covered. The studio is closed between 12 noon and 14h30 allowing for housekeeping and sanitization before the next groups as cleanliness is very important to us.
On Fridays the studio is open between 6am to 12 noon.
    What are my class options?
The Pilates workouts can be done either in a Pilates GROUP CLASS format or in a Pilates PRIVATE (ONE-ON-ONE) CLASS format. In addition to this, you can also form your own PRIVATE SMALL GROUP CLASS, should you wish to come as a family or with your friends.
    Equipment available?
You defiantly should not be worried about getting bored and being on your back for an hour because at Pilates Dynamics getting bored is impossible. Each week you are introduced to a new creative program and props/equipment keeping the classes fun and challenging.
The studio is fully equipped with Pilates Mat and Small Equipment (Rebounding, Thera bands, Magic Rings, Rollers, Weights, Balls, Bosus, Aerobic steppers, Ballet Barre etc.) and/or Pilates Large Machine / Large Equipment Classes (TRX, Reformer Pilates, Pilates Wunda Chair, Pilates Towers, Pilates Cadillac) which are incorporated in every class depending on which group you are joining (Pilates Mat and Small Equipment or Pilates Large Equipment / machine classes).

    Are your Instructors qualified?
Pilates Dynamics Instructors are fully qualified and registered with the correct bodies as per requirements. They are certified with many years of experience and with additional formal health and fitness qualifications. Your safety and goals are our concern. You will have our full attention, whether you engage in a group class or in a private (one-on-one) class.

    How are clients treated?
Our client’s health, safety and happiness are our top priority. Clients are treated with respect and care. Quarterly the clients are asked about they experience and to give feedback to the studio which allows us to keep in touch and ensure that all clients are well taken care of.
Clients are contacted if they do not attend 2 classes in the month to ensure their wellbeing in all areas of life.
Can I join classes even if I am a Pilates Beginner?
Most definitely! We will arrange for a Pilates orientation session for you, which is a Private (ONE-ON-ONE) pilates session with an experienced Pilates Instructor who will take you through some of the movements. You will learn what the Pilates lingo and terms are, as well as the correct posture during the movements and the correct muscle recruitment, so that you are well-versed beforehand and ready for your group class.
    Is Pilates for Athletes?
Absolutely! Pilates is the ideal cross-training exercise method. Whether you are doing Weightlifting, HIIT (high intensity interval training), Cross-fit, or Dancing, our bodies are used to being exercised in the same repetitive planes, and the goal of Pilates is to strengthen those muscles that usually do not get the attention and will focus on stretching the muscles that are usually over-worked and well as focusing on mobility to increase your range. Pilates is all about bringing about a balance to the body in terms of strengthening and stretching muscle groups. This will ensure that you prevent injury.
Will Pilates increase my body awareness?
Yes, another benefit of Pilates is that it encourages you to stay in touch with your body and listen to your body as you build strength. Other strength training workouts like Weightlifting, Running, Cross-fit, Cricket, Soccer, Rugby, and Cycling, encourages a mentality of pushing your body to its limits. This means you might not always be listening to your body, making it easier to ignore your body cues. Pilates kind of re-educates you in terms of being mindful so that you can perform your sports and exercise with the correct posture and movements.
Is it like doing Pilates on a YouTube video?
No, it is not the same thing, being in studio allows for the instructor to correct your posture and movement to ensure injury is prevented. Here at Pilates Dynamics, we place a lot of emphasis on posture and movement correction making sure the client is activating the correct muscles in the correct posture.
    That’s not all….
If you have always enjoyed Pilates or have a passion for training or simply in need of a career change, Pilates Dynamics is still the place for you.
Pilates Dynamics offers quality internationally aligned Pilates courses. The lecturers of the courses have been exposed to numerous styles of Pilates and have many years of training and education experience, with additional formal qualifications in Human Movement.

  • Pilates Large Equipment Classes: Reformer, Tower and Wunda Chair

Pilates Large Equipment Classes: Reformer, Tower and Wunda Chair

PILATES REFORMER / PILATES TOWER AND WUNDA CHAIR GROUP CLASSES AT PILATES DYNAMICS

What is a Pilates Reformer; a Pilates Tower and a Pilates Wunda Chair?
The Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower and Pilates Wunda Chair exercises are specially designed to challenge and strengthen the body, the REFORMER is so named because it was created to reform the body of the participant. Consisting of a large frame, topped with a flat, cushioned platform; this movable platform (or carriage) is attached to the frame by springs and moves as you push or pull with your legs and arms. The reformer also has long straps with handles on them which can be pulled to move the carriage. Through a variety of carefully choreographed movement, Reformer Pilates provides a full body workout.

Pilates Reformer exercises can be amended to create programs for beginners, rehabilitation, and/or athletic workouts. It is the most user-friendly apparatus on which to perform leg work. It places the body in a comfortable non-weight-bearing supine position and recruits the muscles in a balanced way. Some of the stretches on this machine cannot be duplicated as effectively on any other apparatus.

Like the reformer, the PILATES WUNDA CHAIR is another of Joseph Pilates’ resistance exercise machines. The Pilates chair is basically a box with one side that can be pressed down against the resistance of springs, like a large pedal. Sometimes the pedal portion is divided into two parts that can be worked independently. Traditionally, Pilates chairs were made of wood, with a padded top and pedal.

Pilates chairs increases balance and control of the body making it great for both advanced clients and athletes as well as for pre-natal clients. This apparatus activates the lower back, buttocks, shoulders, abdominals and pelvic region and heightens neuromuscular co-ordination.

The PILATES TOWER is an apparatus that offers a more stable surface to work from. Individuals can sit, stand or lie down on your back or stomach on a mat and work with resistive springs that are attached to a Tower to build strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. Tower classes are a bit more strength focused.

The Pilates Tower differs from the Pilates Reformer in that it highlights the hamstrings during leg work, both in terms of flexibility and strength. Just as the Reformer offers stretches for the lower body that cannot be duplicated on any other apparatus, the Tower offers unique stretches for the upper body that can only be performed on the Pilates Tower. A big advantage of doing legwork on the Pilates Tower is that it minimises the possibility of hyper lordosis and stretches the lower back.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced client, a Pilates Tower program can be adjusted to suit your needs.
If you are new to Pilates equipment classes, you may notice you have many choices at Pilates Dynamics. All classes offer a fun and unique way to build strength, improve flexibility and enhance posture awareness. The best approach to achieving the results you are seeking is to add as much variety to your workouts as you can. By making sure you include PILATES REFORMER CLASSES; PILATES WUNDA CHAIR CLASSES and PILATES TOWER CLASSES in your routine, you are more likely to keep your body guessing and see those results quicker.

What are the Benefits of the Pilates Reformer / Pilates Wunda Chair / Pilates Tower Exercises?
Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower & Pilates Wunda Chair classes are great for strengthening the body’s “powerhouse” (abs, lower back, hips and glutes), Shoulders, Arms and Legs. Workouts on both apparatuses focuses heavily on alignment, balance and accurate muscle engagement, which can lead to improved posture, better balance and more stability and increased range of movement, especially when in motion.

The Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower; and Pilates Wunda Chairs classes also provide terrific no-impact workouts, with a combination of lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing, with little force being exerted on your joints. There are literally hundreds of exercises which can be done on these specialised pilates apparatus, also referred to as pilates large equipment.

These workouts are great if you are looking for an intense and challenging workout!!

Can beginners sign up for a Pilates Reformer / Wunda chair GROUP class?
Our Pilates Reformer; Pilates Tower and Pilates Wunda Chair Pilates group classes are suitable for all fitness levels and anyone can sign up even if they have little to no pilates experience, however we do ask clients to book an orientation session first before signing up for a group class. The orientation session is a private, 55 minute session in which the instructor/trainer will assess the client for possible injuries and muscle imbalances, muscle weaknesses and discuss goals and outcomes and teach clients the basics of pilates like proper breathing, correct movements, how to isolate and use the correct muscle in exercises and correct body alignment (spinal, pelvic and joints).

You will be orientated as far as using these machines are concerned, so that you are familiar with the operation instructions given by the Pilates Instructor during your group exercise class. These sessions can be booked at any time, depending on the availability of our instructors.

What should you bring to the class?
Bring along a sweat towel and socks as exercises are done wearing socks. If you have anti-slip socks, then those will work better.

How do we book a class?
Contact us on 011-792 5459 or 072 999 2229 or email us on info@pilatesdynamics.co.za and book your pilates reformer and chair group class today.

  • Pilates Classes Near Me: Reformer, TRX, Rebounding, Wunda Chair and Towers

Pilates Classes Near Me: Reformer, TRX, Rebounding, Wunda Chair and Towers

Over the past couple of years, it is safe to say that Pilates has taken over the exercise world and we see some of our favorite celebrities both male and female like Lori Harvey, The Kardashians, David Beckham, Jennifer Aniston – to name a few – gushing over Pilates.

    What is Pilates?

Even though Pilates has become popular, there are some people who still do not understand what it is about so we will briefly cover this question.

Pilates was developed by a man called Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and was originally called “Contrology”. Pilates is a full body workout, using spring and body weight resistance – and many other equipment – and control placing emphasis on the core to control proper breathing and breathing patterns, correct spinal and pelvic alignment.  Joseph Pilates was involved in all different types of sports and developed this exercise method to create a 360-degree type of exercise with mind and body involved for sports as well as for all people, active or not.

Pilates strengthens stabiliser muscles which support the skeletal structure with emphasis on the spine which will ultimately improve posture and unload the spine and the joints.

With that being said, there are people who enjoy Pilates as a form of exercise only and there are others who are very passionate about Pilates and movement that they decided to become Pilates Instructors and if you are either one of those, Pilates Dynamics is the best studio near you to get the best Pilates classes and Internationally Recognized Certified Instructor Training Courses.

The jumping series is unique to the reformer which accommodates plyometric (powerful jump training) movements in a full range.

Exercises are done lying down back, front, or sides, seated and standing, with or without balance – whilst the machine moves.  At Pilates Dynamics, you can join a Beginner or Intermediate or Athletic Pilates class. How great is it to have such options?!!

The pace of classes in our Pilates Large Machine Classes are also adjusted to reap the benefits of cardiovascular health together with all the other strength and postural benefits of Pilates.  The Reformer for instance has a Jump Board which is specifically designed and recruited for cardiovascular work, without the pressure on your joints.  Balancing work with spring tension on a movable platform is a great and challenging favourite on the Pilates Reformer machine.
